As an executive board member of Lehigh’s Colleges Against Cancer, I help plan and execute Lehigh’s Relay for Life. This will be my third year helping and this fun-filled event, and I’m very excited because the theme is Disney! This event is to fight back against cancer and remember those who have passed from cancer, those battling with cancer now and to acknowledge everyone that has been touched by cancer in any way. The event starts at 4:00 pm Friday April 4 and continues to 7 am the following morning. Students are asked to stay the entire time to walk the track and raise money to fight back against cancer. This long event was created to simulate the idea that cancer never sleeps, and so we won’t either.
Each group is asked to hold an on-site fundraiser to raise money. Fundraisers in the past have included hair dying tables, cake decorating competitions, tie-dye tables, bake sales and many more fun activities. The movie Toy Story will be playing at the event, and there will be many more Disney themed activities that night as well. The night will be filled with entertainment and aerobic activities to keep everyone awake and moving.
This club has allowed me to utilize my fascination with cancer and my interest to help others. There are over 150 clubs and organizations at Lehigh University available for students to become involved, and if there isn’t a club here that interests you (which I’m sure there is at least one, if not more) than you are encouraged to create your own club. Remember to stay involved, give back and attend RELAY!
This is a video the Colleges Against Cancer club created to explain why we relay. Additionally, we just won the Duel of the Schools challenge by raising more money for relay and completing more Relay related challenges than other colleges near our school . Go Lehigh!
Below is the link to sign up for relay if you haven’t already. Hope to see you there!
